Thousands celebrate Independence Day at Dunwoody 4th of July parade
Several bands played patriotic tunes along the course Photo by Cathy Cobbs Thousands turned out on a steamy July to witness more than entries including bands dinosaurs floats and political candidates at the city s annual th of July parade The day went off without a hitch save an situation involving a truck that was in the parade which hit a pedestrian and threw several children off the back of the trailer when the driver reacted by slamming on the brakes According to a release from Dunwoody Police the situation occurred when a F- Lightning with a trailer and pedestrian were involved in a crash The drivers of the carriage paused to switch drivers and continue on in the parade During the switch the new driver mistakenly hit the accelerator which caused the wagon to lunge forward according to the release The conveyance struck a pedestrian knocking her to the ground When the driver hit the brakes the trailer disconnected from the truck and caused several people on the trailer to fall off Several children and an adult who were transported to local hospitals suffered non-life-threatening injuries We are still actively probing the crash and have no other information to release at this time the comment explained While diagnostic personnel tended to the injured the parade paused for about minutes Freddie Falcon was a popular entry at the parade Photo by Cathy Cobbs Outgoing Dunwoody High School football coach and athletic director Mike Nash was named this year s Dunwoody Fourth of July Parade marshal During his decade of coaching at the school Nash revitalized the scheme achieving a - record with back-to-back playoff appearances in and On X Nash thanked the Dunwoody society for its aid but noted all good things must come to an end The parade included the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile Freddie Falcon a scattering of politicians the Torres family Dinowoody entry and the Dunwoody High School band with its football players carrying a large flag After the parade a family-friendly festival was held in the Dunwoody Village parking lot with food play areas and entertainment Winners this year included Music - DHS Band - ATL CV Drum and Bugle Corps - th Army Band Spirit -Stayin Alive -Sons and Daughters of American Revolution -DHS Football Flag Car -Dr Z s Fleet -Corvettes -Wienermobile Float -Dinowoody -Rotary Club -Tilly Mill Auto OverallDinowoody The post Thousands celebrate Independence Day at Dunwoody th of July parade appeared first on Rough Draft Atlanta
